President Gotabaya Rajapaksa requests the youth to extend their support to the new Cabinet Ministers to deliver for the people.
Speaking after appointing 17 new Cabinet Ministers this morning at the President’s House in Colombo, President Rajapaksa said he disregarded the seniority of Parliamentarians when naming the new Cabinet.
The Head of State added that the new Cabinet Ministers now have an opportunity to deliver the “system change” which has been one of the demands of protesting youth.
The President noted that the Ministerial post is not a privilege but a huge responsibility.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa also requested the newly appointed Cabinet Ministers not to seek additional facilities or perks after assuming duties in their respective roles.
The President said he expects the new Ministers to discharge their duties honestly, efficiently and void of corruption.
The Head of State stressed that newly appointed Ministers should take measures to eliminate corruption in establishments that fall under their purview.
The President added that most state establishments are facing grave financial problems at present and therefore emphasized the importance of addressing the issue.
