COLOMBO (NewsRadio): President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says he hopes more countries will be drawn to Sri Lanka’s approach to organic agriculture.
The Head of the State expressed his views while addressing the United Nations Food Systems Summit virtually held in Rome Italy in line with the UN General Assembly which will be held in September.
President Rajapaksa said the right to access food is a fundamental human right and that governments need to have a broader understanding of the complexities of the global food system, even if they act independently to protect the rights for their citizens.
The President also said Sri Lanka, which has an agricultural heritage deeply linked with an advanced irrigation civilization, has begun initiatives to practice sustainable organic farming once again.
The three-day summit, chaired by UN Secretary General António Guterres, will be attended by heads of state from a number of countries.
