Visiting Asia and Pacific Department Director of the International Monetary Fund Changyong Rhee is scheduled to meet President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.
The main objective of the meeting is to brief President Rajapaksa on the International Monetary Fund’s assessment of the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile yesterday, the IMF Asia and Pacific Department Director held discussions with Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Treasury Secretary SR Atygalle.
During talks, officials have reportedly discussed details of the IMF’s latest review of the economy and the assessments outlined by IMF executive directors at an IMF board meeting in late February.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is expected to start formal negotiations with the IMF in April on a possible programme that could boost reserves and put growth on a sustainable path.
