President’s Spokesman Kingsley Ratnayake says President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s stance is to build a people centric economy and a prosperous country.
He claimed the government had initiated operations to control the prices of essential food items including paddy, rice, and sugar by imposing emergency regulations in accordance with the results of the decisions taken under the President’s vision.
Issuing a special statement to media informing the President’s stance as the leader of a people’s government pertaining to the current situation in the country, Ratnayake said the Head of State through his powers issued the Gazette Notification pertaining to emergency regulations on the 30th of August with the main objective of safeguarding consumers.
He said in line with the Gazette, the Commissioner General of Essential Services was appointed for the distribution of essential items and overall oversight of the situation.
The Spokesman said the business community issued statements claiming to assist the government adding however they disregarded all such agreements.
