The Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union has requested the President and the Inspector General of Police to arrest former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the suspects who attacked the youth engaged in a peaceful protest at Galle Face on Monday.
Speaking to media after lodging a written complaint with the IGP, the Chief Secretary of the Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said legal action must be taken against the group that attacked the peaceful protestors.
He said they oppose the appointment of the new Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Jayasinghe said the President is pursuing different avenues, instead of heeding the public demands, even after anti-government demonstrations were are being held across the country.
He added the President has struck deals with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, instead of listening to the people’s demands to vacate the post.
