President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has contacted Russian President Vladimir Putin via telephone for talks this afternoon.
President Rajapaksa taking to Twitter said a very productive telephone conversation took place with President Putin.
The President said he thanked the Russian President for all the support extended by his government to overcome challenges in the past.
President Rajapaksa said he also requested an offer of credit support to import fuel to Sri Lanka as a means to address the current economic challenges.
President Rajapaksa also stated that he requested the Russian President to restart Aeroflot operations in Sri Lanka.
The President said the two leaders unanimously agreed to strengthen bilateral relations in sectors such as tourism, trade, and culture in order to reinforce friendship between the two nations.
