The State of Emergency imposed in the country has been revoked.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issuing an Extraordinary Gazette Notification revoked the order he issued imposing a State of Emergency in the country with effect from the 1st of April.
President Rajapaksa issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification declaring a Public Emergency in Sri Lanka on the 1st of April.
The President by virtue of powers vested in him by Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), as amended by Act, No.8 of 1959, Law No.6 of 1978 and Act, No.28 of 1988, issued the gazette declaring public emergency in Sri Lanka, in the interests of public security, the protection of public order and the maintenance of essential supplies and services.
However, reversing this decision, the President revoked the State of Emergency imposed in the country with effect from midnight on the 5th of April 2022.
