Parliamentarian Harsha de Silva says President Gotabaya Rajapaksa must step down and allow a new team to revive the country.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, MP de Silva said his faction since 2020, on a number of occasions requested the President and the government to seek the support of the International Monetary Fund.
He said they also warned of the repercussions of printing money excessively and the failure to restructure existing debt.
MP Harsha de Silva said all such warnings were ignored.
He said the entire country is suffering at present due to the poor judgement and irresponsible actions of the government.
The Parliamentarian said therefore the President cannot remain in office any longer and he should allow another team to take over.
He said if the President cannot resign tomorrow, he must provide a timeline.
MP Harsha de Silva is of the view that a single-party government cannot address the current issues. He said an all-party government must be formed to steer the country forward.
MP de Silva said they will provide all assistance to resolve the issues since they cannot remain patient any longer while witnessing the suffering of 20 million Sri Lankans.
