President Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued directives to ensure the stringent supply of fuel across the island.
The President’s Media Division issuing a statement said the President made these comments during a discussion at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Matters pertaining to the distribution of fuel for various sectors was discussed.
Furthermore, in line with the commencement of schools across the island on Monday (25) it has been decided to supply fuel for school buses and vans through Sri Lanka Transport Board owned depots.
The PMD added steps will be taken to issue fuel to those engaged in the education, fisheries, tourism, agriculture, and public service sectors through SLTB depots and tri-forces camps.
The PMD claimed President Wickremesinghe issued directives to the Police to address issues related to the sale of fuel at higher prices illegally and to take steps against those found guilty.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe also advised officials to implement the QR code system promptly.
The PMD said matters pertaining to the procurement and financing of fuel stocks in the future were also discussed.
Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Bandula Gunawardana, Mahinda Amaraweera, Ali Sabry, Kanchana Wijesekera, and Tiran Alles and several members of Parliament and government officials were present at the discussion.
