The National People’s Power charges that the country is today dependent on a President’s need to fulfill his personal aspirations, regardless of the crisis the country is facing.
Addressing a media briefing, NPP Parliamentarian Harini Amarasuriya said the country requires an administration that has secured the trust of the people.
MP Amarasuriya said if it is determined that the country’s rulers are the cause for the present state of the country; the only solution is to change those in power.
The Parliamentarian added however that months-long requests for the President to resign have fallen on deaf ears.
The MP recalled the President’s recent statement to Bloomberg, where he stated that he cannot leave as a failed leader and will therefore complete his last two years in office.
MP Amarasuriya stated that this is a mere ego problem and not out of concern for the country’s people, adding that the President is vying to prove something to himself.
She noted that a leader cannot govern in such a manner, stating that the country’s issues cannot be resolved by such leaders.
MP Harini Amarasuriya said the public is protesting due to pressure they are facing amidst the current crisis.
