The Parliamentary group of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and 11 affiliated political parties of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna who declared themselves independent of the government have been invited by the President for a round of discussions.
Political sources claim the discussions are set to be held this evening.
The group of Parliamentarians submitted 11 proposals to the President pertaining to forming an interim government.
Sources claim that the President has extended an invitation to the MPs in order to discuss the proposals tabled by them.
The proposals include establishing a National Executive Council consisting of leaders of political parties representing Parliament to formulate government policy decisions, the Council to determine the number of Ministries and their subjects on a logical basis necessary for the maintenance of an interim government, and the appointment of a Prime Minister on the advice of the Council.
