The opposition accuses the President of directing contradictory responses to the matters inquired by the Chief Prelates in relation to the present situation in the country, in a letter to the most venerable.
Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake speaking to media in Kandy said despite the Chief Prelates requesting the government to step down and raising concerns over the severe economic burdens, the President has responded with Constitutional Amendments, the formation of an interim administration and possessing a majority in Parliament.
MP Attanayake said the Head of State must consider the requests of the Chief Prelates and take necessary steps instead of providing clarifications over a proposed Constitutional Amendment.
The Parliamentarian said neither the Chief Prelates nor the public will be satisfied with the President’s response.
