Power generation at the Kerawalapitiya Power Plant has been suspended.
The Ceylon Electricity Board said the shortage of furnace oil led to operations of the plant being suspended.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy said USD 42 million has been paid for a shipment of diesel and jet fuel that was anchored at the Colombo Port over the past 12-days.
Accordingly, 20,000MT of diesel and 20,000MT of jet fuel will be offloaded.
The late fees however are yet to be estimated.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Energy said another ship carrying 35,000MT of petrol, purchased through the Indian loan facility, also arrived in the island.
