Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says the daily two-hour-and-30-minute power cuts will continue until the Norochcholai power plant is fully functional.
The Energy Minister said the power cut durations will not be reduced until the Norochcholai power plant is connected back to the national grid.
Minister Kanchana Wijesekera added they have paid a total of USD 34 million for a consignment of furnace oil today.
The Minister said the consignment will be unloaded today and will be used for power generation and industries.
One of the generators of the Norochcholai power plant was disconnected from the national grid last week for maintenance.
