The All Island Poultry Association says the prices of eggs and poultry products in the market have increased due to the inability to import animal feed.
The Association says it is facing difficulties importing animal feed due to the severe shortage of dollars in the country.
Speaking to NewsRadio, President of the Association Ajith Gunasekera said only way to reduce prices of poultry products is to increase production.
He noted raw materials for animal feed are imported but due to the dollar shortage, letters of credits are not issued.
Ajith Gunasekera said they are now facing difficulties to meet the local demand in the coming months.
He said if the government is able to provide certain concessions to poultry producers to import animal feed then they are able to increase production which will in turn reduce the prices of eggs and chicken.
