The Department of Posts has informed that legal action will be taken against staff who continues with the strike action, under the grounds of deserting duties.
Post Master General Ranjith Ariyaratne said he will inform trade unions in writing about the matter today.
Earlier, the Post Master General issuing a statement said post offices and sub-post offices will only open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until the 10th owing to the fuel crisis in Sri Lanka.
However the postal trade unions initiated a strike from the 26th of June in protest of this decision.
Due to the strike, a significant volume of undelivered mail was reportedly piled up at the Central Mail Exchange and the Foreign Mail Unit.
