The Port Joint Trade Union Alliance says it will stage a massive protest today against the move to sell services and land of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority which will lead to job losses.
The protest will be staged opposite the Khan Clock Tower in Colombo Fort.
Speaking to NewsRadio, General Secretary of the All Ceylon General Port Employees’ Union Niroshan Gorakanage said they decided to stage a protest since they have not received a positive response to calls made to politicians to halt the decision to sell port resources to foreign companies.
He said they educated employees, officials, subject ministers and the government of the detrimental impact of selling 13 acres of land that belongs to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to a Chinese company.
Niroshan Gorakanage said they also raised several other matters with the Minister and the government.
He said if the government is unwilling to listen to their concerns and work for the best interest of the country then they are prepared to intensify their struggle.
