Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith today paid his last respects to the late Priyantha Kumara, who was brutally murdered in Pakistan.
The Cardinal expressed his condolences to the family of Priyantha Kumara.
The Cardinal speaking to media subsequently said such atrocities are committed through the use of religion as a pawn for politics.
The Cardinal said politics and religion must always remain separated.
Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said religion helps lead people on the correct path and doesn’t lead to the raising of fists against one another.
The Cardinal said behind such incidents are political hands at play through the use of religion, adding that religion and politics must not be confused.
His Eminence said such incidents must not repeat in the future claiming that all individuals must strive to live in brotherhood.
He expressed hope that the Pakistan government will conduct a stringent investigation and identify the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
The Cardinal also said the government must support the family of Priyantha Kumara.
