General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Ranjith Madduma Bandara says if a country’s Central Bank is politicised it will affect the economy.
MP Madduma Bandara said all countries whose economies have collapsed are perfect examples.
Speaking during a media briefing today, the Parliamentarian called for an independent individual to be appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
He said Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal is a founding member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and still is engaged in active politics adding that such an individual was appointed as the Governor in order to fulfil their political dealings.
On a separate note, the Parliamentarian commented on the decision by the government to vest shares of the Kerawalapitiya Yugadanavi Power Plant with an American firm.
MP Madduma Bandara said individuals who came into power claiming to protect state assets are now engaged in the daily sale of such assets.
He said individuals who refused US aid under the Millenium Challenge Corporation agreement are now accepting payments in USD.
The Parliamentarian said the aid was rejected as they would not have been able to obtain commissions.
He urged the government to put an end to corruption and ensure the country’s sovereignty.
