Unions accuse Police of intimidating and trying to silence the voice of teachers who are staging protests to win their legitimate rights.
A heated situation was reported this afternoon when a group of Police officers attempted to remove the tent set-up by teacher unions who are staging a satyagraha campaign opposite the Presidential Secretariat.
The tent was used by teacher union who are protesting at the designated agitation site in the vicinity of the Presidential Secretariat.
Speaking to media, General Secretary of the Government Teachers’ Association, Shehan Dissanayake said even yesterday Police disrupted their protests.
He said the Police removed the tent at the site without a court order and threatened the teachers.
Shehan Dissanayake said Police is not enforcing the law accurately and noted that they will intensify their trade union action, if they are threatened.
