The Sri Lanka Police claims that action will be taken against those who spread false information via digital and social media.
The Police said according to Article 15 of the Extraordinary Gazette Notification issued yesterday pertaining to the State of Emergency, false information that can invoke unnecessary fear and chaos must not be communicated.
The Police said false information, messages, or photographs must not be released through word of mouth or digital and social media.
The statement issued by the Police Media Unit said the Computer Crimes Investigation Division has commenced investigations into persons involved in such activities.
All Police Stations can investigate persons accused of sharing false information and will be dealt with according to powers vested through the Gazette and other laws in place.
