Police have commenced investigations over threats levelled at Members of Parliament using social media platforms.

Police said they have observed various posts circulating on social media in recent days.

According to authorities certain social media users have directly threaten MPs over voting patterns in Parliament.

Based on the directive of the Ministry of Public Security, Police will conduct a probe to identify those creating, circulating and publishing posts that threaten public representatives.

The Police headquarters has directed the Computer Crime’s Investigation Division which comes under the purview of the DIG in-charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to take legal action against those levelling threats at MPs using social media.
