Police have issued a statement regarding a video circulating on social media of a Police Constable questioning a motorist under the influence at the Imaduwa Entrance to the Southern Expressway.
The video shows the Policeman on duty, who stopped the drunk driver, being questioned by an OIC over the phone.
The Police Headquarters issuing a statement said the incident took place on the 4th of June last year. An investigation was carried out by an Assistant Superintendent of Police under the supervision of the Director of the Express Highway Patrol Division.
Police said the OIC was found to have violated the code of conduct while the investigation report has been handed over to the relevant division to recommend disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera had instructed the Inspector General of Police in writing on the 26th of July last year to conduct a formal investigation into the incident and to submit a report.
The Minister today instructed the Secretary of the Ministry to inquire into action taken in relation to the incident and to promptly seek disciplinary action against the OIC of the Imaduwa Expressway.
