The Police Headquarters has received the order issued by the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court to arrest all Policemen involved in the shooting of an individual at Rambukkana on the 19th of April.
Accordingly, the Inspector General of Police has issued directives to the DIG in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to make the arrests.
Kegalle Magistrate Wasana Nawarathna informed Court that according to the report submitted by the Judicial Medical Officer, the individual died of gunshot injuries.
A tense situation was reported in Rambukkana on the 19th of April with area residents engaging in protests from morning demanding a steady supply of fuel and against the recent fuel price revision.
Police fired tear gas to disperse protesters and opened fire when they failed to disperse the crowds.
One individual died in the Police gunfire, while several others also sustained injuries.
The Criminal Investigation Department has thus far recorded 20 statements in relation to the incident.
