The Colombo South Divisional Crime Unit has arrested a suspect from Kirulapone yesterday, who was charged with impersonating a police officer and stealing money, jewellery and a motor vehicle.
The Bambalapitiya Police received a complaint on the 9th of this month over the theft of a motor vehicle worth Rs. 4 million, Rs. 30,000 in cash and gold jewellery worth Rs. 360,000.
At the time of the arrest, approximately six grams of heroin was found in the suspect’s possession.
The suspect, who arrived on a motorbike threatened the driver of the car with a knife and proceeded to steal his belongings.
The suspect had handcuffed the driver after the theft and stranded him on the road.
Police said initial investigations revealed that the suspect abandoned the car in the Bambalapitiya area.
It was also revealed that the motorcycle on which the suspect arrived was also stolen from Keselwatte, Colombo.
The arrested suspect was revealed to be a 33 year old resident of Kirulapone.
He is due to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court today.
