The All Ceylon Joint Economic Centres says Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today vowed to provide immediate solutions to issues faced by vegetable farmers.
The Prime Minister today held a round of discussions at his official residence in Nuwara-Eliya regarding concerns faced by vegetable farmers.
Chairman of the Centre Aruna Shantha Hettiarachchi said livelihoods of farmers and the public alike have been severely affected owing to the fertiliser crisis, adding that economic centres and the Manning Market cannot be maintained when vegetables are being sold at high prices.
He said an unnecessary decision was reached at an inappropriate time.
Hettiarachchi said the Prime Minister responded positively adding that the Premier also accepted their claims that the subject Minister is receiving advice from irrelevant individuals around him and is in turn arbitrarily releasing statements to media.
Hettiarachchi said the Premier vowed to intervene in this matter.
