Minister Bandula Gunawardana says Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is due to present a progress report in Parliament tomorrow on discussions with the International Monetary Fund. Minister
Gunawardana was responding to a query raised by Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella pertaining to the ongoing discussions with the IMF.
MP Kiriella said they expected an update on the IMF discussions during today’s Parliament session, adding that the country too was watching to learn of the progress.
He said the public remains hopeful, adding that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya is also hopeful that the talks will be a success as it will bring about a boost to the country’s people.
The MP said US media however have stated that the talks with the IMF have been a failure and called for these reports to be clarified.
Minister Gunawardana in response said the government and the IMF are engaged in discussions pertaining to foreign debt restructuring.
The Minister claimed the government will act with responsibility, reiterating that several rounds of talks have been held between the IMF and the Minister of Finance, the President, and officials of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
