Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says he seeks the support of the youth at GoGotaGama when addressing the country’s economic crisis.
The Premier in a special statement pertaining to the country’s economic situation said two to three months will be required to formulate necessary plans adding that the future will turn for the better subsequently in the mid and long-term through various measures.
Premier Wickremesinghe said while talks have commenced with the International Monetary Fund, the weeks ahead will be more challenging.
The Prime Minister noted that the economic situation, and the fuel, and fertiliser situation have been evaluated and a conclusion was reached that the lack of planning led to the shortages of goods and other issues.
The Premier also stated that the youth have raised their voices over the economic issues in the country, and have called for a change to move forward.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe assured that GotaGoGama at Galle Face will not be removed and continue to be protected.
He added a committee has been appointed to hold talks with the youth at GotaGoGama to protect the area and to provide assistance.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the GotaGoGama space will not to be run by the government, but by the youth while the government will work towards supporting their demands.
