PM calls emergency party leaders meeting

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has summoned an emergency party leaders meeting.

The Prime Minister’s Media Division said the Premier called the meeting to discuss the present situation in the country and to arrive at a swift resolution.

Premier Wickremesinghe has also requested Speaker of the House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to summon Parliament promptly.

Thousands gathered at protest sites across Colombo for an anti-government protest demanding the resignation of the President.

Police also fired several rounds of tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters at Chatham Street, Colombo 01 and opposite the President’s House in Fort and also directed tear gas at protestors at the Galleface Green.
