The Public Health Inspector’s Union of Sri Lanka charges Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella of failing to provide a favourable solution to a request made on three occasions to hand an opportunity to discuss professional issues.
Chairman Upul Rohana said health officials must take responsibility for the inconvenience caused to the public due to the strike action launched by health workers.
Rohana claimed there is a serious crisis regarding the professional issues faced by nurses and those part of the complementary and supplementary medical services.
He said the PHI Union requested the Health Minister to provide an opportunity to hold discussions and resolve issues while carrying out duties.
Rohana claimed however the Health Minister did not attempt to hold discussions with trade unions adding that the newly appointed Health Minister failed to intervene and provide solutions to professional issues.
He stated a strike action will have to be staged if the Health Minister and health officials fail to provide solutions to their demands.
