The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Union informed that the conduct of raids to identify individuals selling products unsuitable for human consumption, will not be abandoned owing to power disruptions.
Speaking to media, Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana said it is untimely to grant a free pass to such traders.
He warned the public to remain vigilant over the quality of frozen food when purchased, due to continuous power cuts experienced island wide.
Rohana said the public is severely inconvenienced due to the Ceylon Electricity Boards inability to follow the predetermined schedule for power cuts.
Upul Rohana also requested traders to refrain from selling frozen food that is stored in large freezers during power cuts, which don’t carry the same quality.
He said legal action will be taken against all traders who violate the law and sell unsuitable products to consumers.
