The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says the Pfizer vaccine should be administered to individuals between the ages of 20 and 30 in the Colombo District and not in the Hambantota District.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, Parliamentarian SM Marikkar said priority to administer the Pfizer vaccine must be given to Colombo as it is the district at high risk.
MP Marikkar said the vaccine was administered in Hambantota the day before the programme commenced to vaccinate the 20 to 30 age group, adding when concerns were raised the government claimed Pfizer vaccines were supplied to Hambantota owing to the Hambantota Harbour.
The Parliamentarian questioned whether the Colombo Harbour situated in the commercial capital was irrelevant.
MP Marikkar said the Colombo District is the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with the highest loss of daily wages, increasing psychological issues due to lockdowns, and a large number of individuals travelling through and within the district.
On a separate note the MP said the Prime Minister’s visit to Italy in the backdrop of Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith condemning investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attack, the government must clarify the reasons behind the visit.
