A Fundamental Rights petition has been filed before the Supreme Court calling for an interim order preventing a stake of the Yugadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya from being vested with an American firm.
The petition was filed by the Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and Ven. Elle Gunawansa thera.
53 including Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and the Attorney General have been cited as respondents.
The US firm, New Fortress has also been cited as a respondent.
The petition is seeking an interim order against the company from being awarded a contract for liquefied natural gas.
