The Court of Appeal today rejected the writ petition filed by Civil Activist Nagananda Kodithuwakku seeking an interim order suspending the 2021 GCE Advanced Level examination timetable.
The order was issued by Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna, stating the Court of Appeal had no jurisdiction to grant the relief sought in the petition.
The writ petition was filed before the Court of Appeal calling for the postponement of the 2021 A/Level Exam which is scheduled to begin on the 7th of February, by 20 weeks.
The Minister of Education, the Commissioner General of Examinations and the Secretary to the Ministry of Education were named as respondents.
The petitioner states A/Level students were unable to complete their education activities due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
In his petition he stated educational experts had also pointed out the matter.
He therefore requested court to issue an order postponing the exam by at least 20 weeks
