The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says the decision by the government to compensate USD 7 million to the ship carrying fertiliser from China is a national crime.
Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala speaking to NewsRadio said he did not approve of the decision to issue compensation at a time that the Minister of Finance claimed there are no dollars in the country to import milk powder.
MP Alawathuwala said the relevant bank was due to issue Letters of Credit only after the fertiliser was deemed consumable.
The Parliamentarian questioned whether the President, his Secretary, the subject Minister, or the Ministry will be held responsible for the issue.
MP Alawathuwala said long queues are forming to purchase milk powder.
