Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has called on the government to pave the way for a new beginning.
Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith returned to Sri Lanka this afternoon from Italy, where he travelled on the invitation of His Holiness Pope Francis.
The Cardinal speaking to media on arrival at the BIA said the government officials must not disregard requests put forth by the Maha Nayaka thera.
The Cardinal added they expressed their concerns to the Pope who also called for justice for the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Cardinal Ranjith stated the country is in a dire state and expressed hope that leaders will act responsibly.
The Cardinal added the leaders must not be dramatic and focus on resolving the current crisis.
His Eminence added citizens are facing a multitude of issues and it is the responsibility of politicians to address them.
The Cardinal said the legal system is bent according to the will of the President and Prime Minister is disheartening adding that the supremacy of the law should be maintained
