Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka has requested the public to come forward to defeat the government’s efforts to use quarantine regulations as a political weapon.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo MP Ranawaka claimed attempts are underway to arrest the group that organized the protest held yesterday, over violating health regulations.
He added the Police Media Spokesman had stated that they will be arrested and legal action will be taken on charges of violating quarantine regulations.
The MP noted the pandemic is being used as a political weapon at present.
MP Ranawaka, therefore, requested all segments of society including health experts to come forward to defeat attempts to use the Director-General of Health Services and other health officials for such efforts.
MP Patali Champika Ranawaka claimed attempts are also underway to suppress groups expressing their views on social media platforms.
He said the government is also taking steps to suppress social media activists in all zones of the country.
The MP added at present those using social media platforms in Tamil are being hunted down, over claims of terrorism.
MP Ranawaka said at a time the second in command of the LTTE is residing in Kilinochchi with security provided by the forces, and the government has commenced a discussion with LTTE groups that are overseas, arresting and detaining journalists is a form of intimidation.
