The opposition claims a lockdown should be imposed, while only maintaining essential services.
Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka in a special statement said the Ceylon Electricity Board should be handed over to an expert panel immediately.
The MP said that the CEB is facing a serious crisis due to the actions and directives of the government.
The MP said technical solutions must be sought to the prevalent crisis.
He said while Sri Lanka is expected to experience a rainy season in mid-May, until such time, a lockdown must be imposed.
MP Ranawaka said state and private sector offices don’t function diligently owing to the prevalent crisis, with a majority spending time on roads and in queues.
He charged that the country is at a standstill and therefore called for a coronavirus-like lockdown to be imposed.
The Parliamentarian said the minimal water resources in Sri Lanka must be preserved firstly for drinking purposes, secondly for agriculture, and third and lastly for power generation.
