Parliament will today debate and vote on the state of emergency declared by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The state of emergency was declared under the Public Security Ordinance on the 17th of July by the then Acting President through the issuance of the Special Gazette No.2288/30.
Accordingly, the proclamation on the state of emergency will be debated when Parliament convenes at 10am.
The debate on the proclamation is expected to be approved by MPs after being taken up for debate until 4.30pm. If Parliament does not approve the proclamation within 14 days, it will be annulled.
