Parliament today directed attention towards the gas leak related issue.
Parliamentarian Harin Fernando made a special revelation in Parliament regarding the matter.
He claimed suspicions have arisen over whether the gas related explosions are an attempt to create the necessary backdrop to sell Litro Gas Lanka Limited to another faction.
MP Fernando said claims were made that the composition of propane and butane were changed to 50 percent.
He noted propane is USD 40 higher, and questioned why the country which doesn’t have sufficient funds to bring gas, increased the composition of propane to 50.
MP Fernando said gas cylinders don’t explode without a reason adding that now claims are being made there is an issue regarding the regulator of the gas cylinder.
MP Fernando stated the composition of the gas cylinder is checked both at the country it is sent from, and when it arrives in the country.
He added therefore it cannot be the reason.
MP Harin Fernando said recently a tender was procured to conduct a valuation for Litro Gas Lanka Limited.
He claimed therefore attempts are underway to sell the company, and the demand reduced through gas explosions.
He added people are now moving to alternatives and using electric and wood fire places.
The MP stated Litro Gas Lanka Limited was gaining profits adding that when the demand drops the government will have an opportunity to sell.
He therefore raised questions over whether the recent explosions were an attempt to sell Litro Gas Lanka Limited.
