The opposition says it is hopeful that the Speaker of House will suspend Standing Orders in Parliament and take up the motion that has been tabled against the President in terms of Article 42 of the Constitution.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said a request has been made to suspend Standing Orders and take up the motion.
MP Attanayake said however they are unaware of the decision taken by the Speaker pertaining to the matter.
He said a vote may be required to suspend Standing Orders.
The Parliamentarian also confirmed that the opposition will propose a name for the vacant Deputy Speaker’s post.
MP Tissa Attanayake added that his faction will support the new Prime Minister’s programme to resolve the current economic crisis and other progressive steps.
He said however, that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will not take up any posts in the new government.
