Padukka, Colombo has received the highest rainfall in the country during a 24-hour period that ended at 8.30am.
The Department of Meteorology said Padukka received 157.1mm during the period.
The Met Department added Ampara received 129.5mm of rainfall, Ingiriya 129mm, Wellawa 108.5mm and Thabbowa 102.7mm during the 24-hour period that ended at 8.30am.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology says the prevailing showery condition is expected to continue, due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.
The Met Department said showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island.
Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Northern and Northern-central provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Trincomalee districts.
Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm can be expected at some places elsewhere too.
The Met Department added wind speed can increase up to (40-50) kmph at times in the Southern province.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has said a favourable environment is being created for hydropower generation, due to heavy rain experienced throughout the island.
