Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana says there is an organized group of individuals behind the increase in prices of rice and vegetables.
Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing today, Minister Pathirana said the prices of vegetables dropped significantly opposed to high prices reported three to four days ago.
The Minister said the main issue at present is the price of rice and vegetables.
He said the main aim of such groups is to resume the import of chemical fertiliser.
Meanwhile, when questioned by media whether the Hippo Spirit vessel carrying the Chinese organic fertiliser currently in Sri Lankan waters will be compensated in the sum of USD 6.7 million, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said the case filed in this regard is currently being heard in Court adding the Cabinet of Ministers are not allowed to discuss such matters in public.
Minister Alahapperuma claimed Court will announce a verdict as a political decision cannot be reached on the matter.
On a separate note, when questioned over the difference of opinions between members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Minister Alahapperuma said coalition governments across the world have differences of opinions.
He added similar situations occurred throughout history.
The Cabinet Spokesman claimed such differences of opinions are factors of healthy governance.
