The Our Power of People’s Party today informed the Supreme Court that it is prepared to withdraw the letter seeking the removal of Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thera from his Parliamentary seat, on the condition that an investigation will be conducted.

The matter was revealed when the petition filed by Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera seeking the annulment of the decision taken by the Our Power of People’s Party to revoke his party membership was taken up before a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.

President’s Counsel Furman Qasim, appearing on behalf of the party, informed Court that the letter removing Rathana Thera from his Parliamentary seat will be withdrawn subject to the condition of an investigation.

The attorney representing Rathana Thera objected and stated the letter must be fully withdrawn.

Accordingly, the Supreme Court ordered the attorney representing the Our Power of People’s Party to inform the future course of action in this regard on the 28th of February.
