The government says the opposition is only focused on destabilising the country.
Speaking at a media briefing today, Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena charged that the opposition is attempting to disrupt the country’s economy by bringing down the apparel industry that is a main contributing source to the economy.
The Minister said the opposition must commend those employed in the apparel industry, for committing themselves to operating amidst COVID-19.
He claimed apparel sector workers are a major strength to the economy, highlighting that apparel exports generate dollar revenue.
Minister Abeygunawardena added the opposition hurls allegations of fuel and medicine shortages adding that all this is purchased through dollars generated through apparel exports and questioned why the opposition is attempting to disrupt operations of the apparel sector.
He called on the opposition to act diligently adding that the public will respond to the opposition at future elections.
