Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara Jayamaha says the opposition has a programme to run the country.

Speaking during a public gathering in Hatton, MP Nalin Bandara said they will unveil a programme for the country’s farmers in January.

He said it will consist of a comprehensive plan to develop the agriculture sector.

MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha noted that due to the fertiliser shortage, the country will face a massive food shortage.

He said although the gazette issued to ban the importation of fertiliser has been reversed, fertiliser stocks are not available in the market yet.

MP Jayamaha noted that due to the shortage of pesticides and fertiliser, farmers have refrained from cultivating in the Maha season.

He said the Maha season has already commenced and a large number of people are yet to commence farming due to the uncertainty around fertilisers, pesticides and other necessities.

MP Bandara noted that 65 percent of the rice requirement for the next year is produced during the Maha season.

He said however due to the issue, the country will face major shortages in 2022.

MP Nalin Bandara said the government has already commenced importing rice due to price increases.

He said at present the public has to pay Rs. 130 to Rs. 140 for a kilogram of Nadu rice but it will increase to up to Rs. 200 to Rs. 250 by next April.

The Parliamentarian said Samba rice could become unaffordable and unlikely to be in the market. He attributed the development to the short-sighted policies of the present administration.

On a separate note, MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha claimed although in the past wives were worried about the safety of their husbands due to explosions in buses and in public transport, now the tables have turned and now husbands are concerned about the safety of their wives who remain indoors.

He said not only cylinders are exploding in houses, even recently imported fertiliser cans are exploding across the country.

Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara Jayamaha claimed the entire country is paying the price for the mistakes of a government which came to power using bomb explosions and instilling fear amongst the people.
