Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Udayakantha Gunathilaka says the government has confirmed that the allegations leveled by the opposition regarding the vaccination program in the country are baseless.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information, MP Gunathilaka said that the vaccination program is being implemented successfully island wide at present.
He said the opposition claimed that the government did not have required funds to procure vaccines and the present administration does not have cordial relations with the international community in order to obtain the required number of vaccine doses.
MP Udayakantha Gunathilaka noted however such claims have been proven wrong and the government has been administering the first, second and third vaccine doses at a rapid pace.
He said Sri Lanka has been among the top countries in terms of vaccination rates and even some countries that produce vaccines cannot match the feat of Sri Lanka.
MP Gunathilaka noted although the country has made considerable progress in vaccination, the public’s disregard for health and safety measures during the last Sinhala and Tamil New Year period resulted in an increase in coronavirus cases.
