The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says the Cabinet of Ministers should accept that they failed to control the price of essentials under an economy led by them and called for them to resign.
Speaking at a media briefing Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahuman said the government removed the price control on milk powder, wheat flour, cement and LP gas as they could not impose such regulations.
He questioned the need for a government if a group of businessmen had the sole power to dictate prices of essential goods.
MP Rahuman said shops will continue to sell milk powder, wheat flour, cement and LP gas beginning tomorrow since price controls have been lifted.
He said concealed stocks of essentials will now be revealed as they will be sold in the free market under new prices.
MP Mujibur Rahuman questioned why a Commissioner-General of Essential Services was appointed, and raids conducted under his jurisdiction.
He stressed that the government has knelt before businessmen since they were unable to control prices of goods despite many restrictions.
