The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna claims the Samagi Jana Balawegaya is attempting to increase COVID-19 infections in the country.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena said the objective of the protest planned by the SJB tomorrow in Colombo, is a bid to achieve this.
Minister Abeygunawardena said they also staged protests during their time in the opposition adding however public lives were not put at risk.
The Minister said the government managed to reduce COVID-infections to 400 claiming however the opposition staged teachers’ and farmers’ protests and increased infections.
He said the aim of the SJB led by Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa is to increase COVID-infections and deaths and force the government to impose more lockdowns and thereby cripple the country.
Joining the media briefing, General Secretary of the SLPP Parliamentarian Sagara Kariyawasam said the 2022 Budget is an opportunity to fulfil promises pertaining to development by the present administration.
MP Kariyawasam said long-term development projects that they commenced were hindered due to the global pandemic.
