The daily activities of many sectors have been disrupted due to the 24-hour token strike carried out by representatives of approximately 1,000 trade unions.
Trade unions representing several sectors are currently engaged in a 24-hour token from midnight yesterday, demanding the immediate resignation of the President and the government.
It is notable that many trade unions from a number of sectors, including the state service, health, ports, electricity, water, education, postal, and estate workers have extended their support for the mass trade union action.
A protest march scheduled by Health trade unions got underway at noon today opposite all hospitals island-wide.
Meanwhile, a massive protest and march organized by trade unions is scheduled to get underway opposite the Fort Railway Station this afternoon.
In addition, the unions are planning on marching from several locations including Lipton Circus, towards Galle Face Green, and joining the People’s Protest.
